Strive for 25 Pizza Party

Strive for 25 Pizza Party

 

The Strive for 25 pizza party will be Wednesday May 14th during lunch. In order to attend the pizza party each student will need to have read at least 25 books, have the parent/guardian sign the form, and show the homeroom teacher the form by May 9th at the latest. No forms will be accepted after May 9th due to the advance notice required to purchase the pizza. Students are encouraged to show the homeroom teacher prior to May 9th.

Strive for 25 November 8th

The next Strive for 25 benchmark is this Friday the 8th. In order to receive the cookie prize you need to have read at least ten books, have your parent/guardian sign the pink tracking form, and show your homeroom teacher by Friday the 8th. If you need a tracking form or would like more information about the Strive for 25 reading promotion please visit the media center. The cookie reward day will be Wednesday November 13th.

The next Strive for 25 benchmark is this Friday the 27th. In order to receive the popcorn prize you need to have read at least five books, have your parent/guardian sign the pink tracking form, and show your homeroom teacher by Friday the 27th. If you need a tracking form or would like more information about the Strive for 25 reading promotion please visit the media center or contact Ms. Alarcon. The popcorn reward day will be Wednesday October 2nd.

Friday March 1st is the next due date for the Strive for 25. To receive your ice cream coupon the 20 books need to be read and signed by Friday March 1st. If you need a Strive for 25 tracking sheet you can get one in the media center.

Media Center News 1/7

The TRMS Media Center staff hopes that everyone had a wonderful relaxing break! Please see the announcements and newsletter below for upcoming events and news regarding the media center.

 

Reading Bowl

  • Attention Readers: The TRMS Reading Bowl will have a mandatory meeting Tuesday January 8th from 8:00-8:25 in the media center. During the meeting the students will take a test over all of the books to determine our team for the competition. The 10 highest scores will represent TRMS at the Reading Bowl Competition on Saturday January 12th at Langston Hughes High School. Those 10 students will also have mandatory meetings January 9-11th at 8:00 in the media center to prepare for Saturday's competition.

Spelling Bee

  • The TRMS Spelling Bee will be this Wednesday January 9th at 9:00 in the media center. If you are your language arts class winner please report to the media center right after announcements.

 

Strive for 25

  • Friday January 11th is the next due date for the Strive for 25. To receive your hot chocolate/hat coupon coupon the 15 books need to be read and signed by Friday January 11th. If you need a Strive for 25 tracking sheet you can get one in the media center.

Media Center Updates 10/4/2012

Strive for 25

On Wednesday October 3rd we distributed around 675 bags of popcorn as part of the Strive for 25 Reading Promotion! These students received the popcorn for reading at least 5 books by September 28th. The next benchmark for Strive for 25 is November 9th. For this benchmark students will need to read at least 10 books. Those students will receive a cookie coupon for the 10 books. The cookie reward day will be on Wednesday November 14th.

Reading Bowl Meeting

 

Attention Readers: The TRMS Reading Bowl will meet next Tuesday October 9th from 8:00-8:15 in the media center. Please make sure to bring your permission slips if you have not returned them.

Book Fair

The TRMS book fair will run from Thursday October 11th- Friday October 19th in the media center. Please visit us and check out the great selection of books. If you can't make it to the book fair you may also shop online from October 11th- October 26th at the website below. This is our one big fundraiser for the year and our goal this year is $7500. The proceeds will be used to purchase resources to support learning and leisure reading at TRMS. Please help us reach our goal by shopping at school or on-line.

TRMS Tech Clinic and Strive for 25 (Sept. 28th)

TRMS Tech Clinic

What is the TRMS Tech Clinic?

 

The TRMS Tech Clinic is a professional development opportunity for teachers at Taylor Road Middle School.  The TRMS Tech Clinic will be once a month, usually the last Friday of the month. The TRMS Tech Clinic will offer instruction and help with online resources and web 2.0 applications that are useful to teachers.

 

 

We will have our first TRMS Tech Clinic on Friday September 28th from 7:45-8:30 in the media center. The first session of the TRMS Tech Clinic will focus on how to use the Galileo databases to locate informational text to support the Common Core GPS.  http://www.smore.com/xpwh (flyer)

August 20th- 24th

This past week has been busy in TRMS Media Center! We had media center orientations for 6th graders, media center orientation for teachers, and the first Strive for 25 benchmark. The 6th graders learned about check out policies and procedures and also how to set up a Destiny account to locate resources in our media center. During the Media Center Mingle teacher orientation teachers learned about how the media center can help them in the classroom and what resources and services we had to offer.

 

The students who read at least one book over the summer and had the Strive for 25 Tracking Sheet signed will receive a book mark as the reward for the first milestone in the Strive for 25. The book mark will be given out by their homeroom teacher this week. The next Strive for 25 benchmark is the September 28th. Each student needs to have at least 5 books read for this benchmark.
